North Island in Seychelles is considered one of the most exclusive private islands in Africa, even the world. In 2019, it finally joined the Marriott portfolio under its Luxury Collection, so now it’s possible to book this fantastic island with points. 

To reach North Island, you’ll need to take a 20-minute helicopter ride from the capital, Victoria. The resort features 11 private villas set around 201 acres of exquisite land. Villas 1 to 10 all have two bedrooms and measure over 5,000 square feet. However, villa number 11 is slightly larger and is reserved for couples only. A little trivia for pop culture followers, this is the same room Amal and George Clooney booked for their honeymoon. 

The decor in the villas is chic and rustic with large open spaces and wood adornments that are locally harvested. There’s a stunning king bed, a beautiful mix of gauzy fabric, blue chairs, and wood furniture. The bathrooms showcase an open-air feel with deep soaking tubs and even a lounge area. All of the spaces in the villa are interlinked and flow seamlessly into each other. 

For food, there’s an ensuite kitchen in each villa and a chef comes to make your meals. Your meals are designed specifically to offer unique textures and are made from the freshest ingredients. 

As for amenities, the Spa on North Island promises complete relaxation. You can enjoy a host of treatments including couples massages, facials, pedicures, body wraps, and more. There’s also a gym, a swimming pool as well as a private infinity pool. In addition, there’s a yoga pavilion, diving area, and kid’s area. Guests can also enjoy activities like stand-up paddleboarding and hiking. 

Even though the North Island, Seychelles is now a Marriott Hotel, it’s not designated with any category. However, guests can book a free night here using 356,000 points per night. One of the most luxurious private island resorts in the world, Waldorf Astoria Maldives Ithaafushi is also among the most expensive resorts you can book. Guests, however, have no reason to complain whether they book their stay in cash or in points since every bit of time spent on this glorious island is worth every cent.

To reach the island, guests have the option to take a traditional seaplane or book a 40-minute private yacht transfer. The latter is a more comfortable, yet pricier, option for guests. 

Base level rooms start with the King Reef Villa. These villas measure over 3,000 square feet, complete with a private plunge pool, spacious deck gazebo with swing, and lounge chairs.

Inside the villa are vaulted ceilings, a nod to traditional Maldivian houses. The front door opens to a spacious bedroom with a king bed flanked by floating bedsides. The bed is positioned so it faces floor-to-ceiling glass windows showcasing the waters in the distance. In the room, guests will find a minibar with a Nespresso machine, a water heater, and chic utensils. A large flatscreen TV is off to the side with a Chromecast. 

Large double doors with a chevron pattern open to the magnificent spa-like bathroom. Inside, you’re treated to luxurious robes, enormous armoires in the dressing area, and comfy slippers.

Beautiful twin vanities are complemented by Tuscan Soul by Salvatore Ferragamo toiletries. There’s an indoor and outdoor shower and a high-tech Japanese toilet too. But the pièce de résistance is the striking oval soaking tub and its view of the gorgeous sea outside.

The Waldorf Astoria Ithaafuushi also didn’t skimp on amenities. Expect a state-of-the-art fitness center, a Balinese-inspired spa with a hydrotherapy center, and stretches of white sandy beaches all around the island. Guests can also bask in any of the two swimming pools, or arrange a diving excursion with the dive center. There’s a kid’s club, fantastic snorkeling on the property, a multi-purpose court, shops, a photo studio, and a wedding area. 

For food, there are over 10 restaurants and dining areas to choose from. Tasting Table serves a breakfast buffet. It has everything from freshly ground and roasted coffee, a juice bar, made-to-order crepes and eggs, an abundant selection of pastries, and even a cheese section!

For cash prices, the resort costs a premium, with the low season rate starting at $2,496 per night and the peak season rate at $4,620 per night. 3. Laucala Island

Owned by Austrian entrepreneur, Dietrich Mateschitz (also the CEO of Red Bull), Laucala Island is a 3,000-acre private island found in gorgeous Fiji.

The island contains 25 villas with 350 staff members so each guest is fully catered to during their stay. The style and location of the villas here vary, depending on their location on the island. There are some located up high in the forest areas while others are found beachside, just steps away from powdery white sand. 

All rooms, however, are fitted with stylish king beds paired with custom chairs and lounges. There’s a desk, vanity, and a closet. Inside the bathroom, you get twin sinks, a toilet, and a stunning hand-carved bathtub. The private shower is equally luxurious with an outdoor counterpart. There’s even another outdoor tub and a bed for massages. 

The island has five dining options. Plantation House is the fine-dining spot while al fresco dining is offered at the Seagrass Lounge and Restaurant. For barbecues by the beach, head to the aptly named The Beach Bar. Meanwhile, shared plates of Mediterranean-style meals are available at the Pool Bar. If you’re craving open-air dining, you can head to The Rock Lounge and for glorious teppanyaki, the Seagrass Lounge. 

If you’re looking for recreational activities, you have both land and sea choices. You can go game fishing, or enjoy sunset cruises. There’s also kitesurfing, kayaking, and windsurfing available. Of course, there’s diving and fantastic snorkeling in the area too where you can spot angelfish and hawksbill turtles. For the non-claustrophobic also try the two-person submarine. 

On land, you can go horseback riding or play on the 18-hole championship golf course designed by David McLay Kidd. There’s also a tennis court and a kid’s club. 

Laucala Island isn’t cheap. You can book a night here for $5,600 per night full board. Currently, there’s no option to book the island on points.

4. Necker Island

One of the most famous private islands in the world, Necker Island is known for being Richard Branson’s private oasis. The island is located just east of Puerto Rico and slightly north of Virgin Gorda. 

Usually, the entire island needs to be booked out exclusively but at certain times of the year, they hold what’s called “Celebration Weeks” where it’s possible to book individual rooms for a minimum stay of 7-nights. 

There are three main lodging options here, these are the Great House, a newly-added Balinese-inspired space called Leha Lo, and the Great House Master Suite. Initially, the island could only host a maximum of 22 guests but now, with the new additions, it can sleep 40 people in a span of 15 rooms. 

Each room in the Great House offers a balcony with a king-sized four-poster bed, large cathedral ceilings, dark wood furniture, and en-suite bathrooms. The Great House also features common areas where you can relax with a drink or chat with other guests.

The island emphasizes a communal escape. So if you’re booking it during Celebration Weeks, make sure you’re okay with socializing. It’s like visiting someone’s house, you make yourself comfy, dine with the other guests, and just enjoy. 

Communal dining is offered at the Great House and usually, there’s a theme. There’s also a cocktail bar for drinks at night. On the Beach Pavillion, there’s also a 40-seater communal table with an ocean view.

For lunch or dinner, head to Turtle Beach where you can enjoy a BBQ-type lunch. Or maybe try out the floating sushi bar with decadent sashimi prepared by the chefs. 

When it comes to things to do, water sports like kite surfing, sailing, wakeboarding, paddleboarding, or kayaking are a must here. For underwater activities, scuba diving, and snorkeling are two of the main things to do. On the island, you can bask in the pools, play tennis, attend yoga, hire a fitness coach, or indulge in a luxurious spa treatment. 

To book out the entire island for 40 guests, expect to pay around $107,500 per night. During Celebration Weeks, you can rent a night per room with a minimum stay of 7 nights. You can pay between $5,150 per night for the base level room at The Great House up to $8,000 per night at the Great House Master Suite. 

Curious if you can book Necker Island using Virgin points? Not at the moment since the redemption offer is currently on hold. However, under normal circumstances, Virgin does allow you to redeem 1.5 million Virgin Atlantic Flying Club Miles (an equivalent of a 7-night stay) for a room at the Great House.

5. Gladden Private Island, Belize

Gladden Private Island is right on the edge of the Belize Barrier Reef, the second-largest barrier reef in the world. It features a two-bedroom villa that’s ideal for a romantic getaway. Meanwhile, the staff is housed on another smaller island so you have the entire island all to yourself. 

Inside the 3,000 square foot villa are stunning wood and marble floors, cozy wood furniture, and lots of glass walls so you can look out into the stunning view anytime you want. There’s a king bed draped in white sheets and billowy white curtains. Meanwhile, the bathrooms feature walk-in showers, a deep soaking tub, and all the amenities you need. 

There’s also a living room area with minimalistic furniture as well as a rooftop deck if you want to dip in the plunge pool or just sunbathe. 

Food is served by your private chef who visits the villa to prepare your meals. Expect nothing but the freshest ingredients as well as an array of drinks coming from the full-service bar. 

The staff can also make arrangements for you to do various water activities within the reef. You can snorkel, go diving, or go fishing. All you have to do is let them know and they’ll be happy to accommodate you. 

To stay at Gladden Private Island means shelling out at least $3,950 per night for two persons, for a minimum of 4 nights. This price is inclusive of taxes. If you want to have a four-person party, then the price goes up to $4,950 per night.

6. The Brando

The Brando is an eco-friendly luxury private island found at the Tetiaroa Atoll, 30 miles from Tahiti. The name is a homage to the once owner of the island, Marlon Brando, who fell in love with the location after he scouted it for a movie. 

Since then, it has become a 5-star eco-resort and has been the temporary home of dignitaries like Former President Barack Obama. This secluded paradise comes with 35 beachfront villas containing one to three bedrooms. 

Each villa has a separate bedroom, living area, closet, and bathroom. The rooms are stylish and modern, with over 1,033 square feet of space in total. There are ivory lounge sofas and beautiful king beds as well as stunning windows that offer a view of the paradise outside.

Large closets lead to the bathroom where guests can indulge in twin floating vanities, a walk-in shower, and beautiful stone floors. There’s an outdoor shower and tub hidden behind privacy screens. For the deck, there’s a seating area and a plunge pool. Cruiser bikes are also provided for exploring the island. 

The Brando comes with a long list of amenities despite its moderate size. Aside from just lounging, you can go paddleboarding, kayaking, or exploring the uninhabited islands nearby. There are also cooking classes, yoga, tennis, and a fitness center on-site. Varua Spa is also tucked away under a cluster of coconut trees.

For dining, meals can be anything you fancy and delivered to your room or even at the beach. However, there are restaurants on-site too like the Beachcomber Café, the fine-dining spot Les Mutinés, and a vegan menu by Chef Kelvin Au-Leong. All ingredients are locally sourced with the vegetables coming from the resort’s organic garden, the fish from the nearby waters, and the fruits being grown inland. 

The Brando is a unique and fantastic private island resort. Currently, there’s no option to book a stay here using points. However, it’s possible to do a paid booking.

During the low season, a standard room is $3,323 per night plus taxes with a minimum of 2 nights. On peak season, the rate is $4,240 per night plus taxes with a minimum of 5 nights. The average season rate is around $3,781 plus taxes with a minimum of 2 nights.

7. Calala Island

There’s a reason why Calala Island is considered one of the best hotels and resorts in the world you can book using points, not only is it bookable by points, you also get the ultimate privacy of staying on an island all to yourself or with select close friends. 

This ultra-exclusive resort only has four beachfront units, three Junior Suites, and one Master Suite, set on 11 acres of land.

Entry-level rooms start with the Junior Suites which are all located on the southwestern portion of the island. Each villa has a front door facing the ocean and is just meters away from the beach. Inside, there’s a king bed with gauzy netting and lovely thatched roofing above.  

Rooms have an open-plan layout so it’s one seamless space including the bathroom. Speaking of the bathroom, these come with twin sinks, a private toilet, and a semi-outdoor shower area with excellent water pressure. On the deck are two chairs and a small table for sipping coffee or cocktails. Near the beach, there are also two recliners and a two-person hammock for lounging. 

For relaxation, you can head to the spa in the northeastern part of the island. There’s an infinity pool with a swim-up bar as well as the main pavilion. You can also go on various water activities, including island hopping, provided the weather is cooperative. 

When it comes to dining, it’s flexible. The meals are part of your stay including all-day drinks. Breakfast is served at the main pavilion and they provide a menu but you can also order off-menu with no problem. Dinner is extravagant with rotating themes of dishes so guests can have something different each night. 

Despite being one of the most exclusive resorts, you can book a stay at Calala Island using points. It’s a Category 8 SLH Hyatt property so you can redeem 35,000 points per night on off-peak dates or 45,000 points per night on peak dates. Visit during standard dates, and you’ll only need to redeem 40,000 points. 

On the other hand, if you opt for a cash booking, the low season rate is $2,500 per night while in the peak season, the rate can go as high as $3,650 per night. Meanwhile, the average season rate is $3,050 per night. Any booking requires a minimum stay of 3 nights.

8. Time + Tide Miavana

Located off the coast of Madagascar on Nosy Ankao Island, Time + Tide Miavana was created with sustainability in mind. To reach the island, you need to take a 30-minute helicopter flight from Diego Suarez Airport. 

Once you reach the island, you’re greeted by 14 beautiful and luxurious beach villas. Base level rooms start with the one-bedroom villa. While these aren’t incredibly spacious, they are cozy and chic.

The rooms feature a blend of whitewashed wood floors and stylish beach furniture. Each room has a private pool, a cozy garden, a stocked kitchenette, and a master bathroom. All rooms also include direct beach access so you can swim or snorkel right away. You even get butler service throughout your stay. 

While on the island, you can indulge in a lot of water sports as well as wildlife watching, especially when you visit between May to October. You can snorkel and scuba dive in the area too. You can also go kayaking, go on a forest walk, kite surf, or go stand-up paddleboarding. 

Food is included in the rates and as expected, it’s made from the finest local ingredients. Each menu is designed around the island’s harvest as well as any consideration for the dietary needs of its guests. You have the option to dine in your villa or head to the main piazza. 

While there’s no points redemption here, you can do a paid booking. This luxurious island can be booked for $3,000 per night for a one-bedroom villa. It’s $1,500 for every additional child aged 14-17 years old. All of the meals and drinks, as well as some activities, are included.

9. Velaa Private Island

Entry-level rooms start with the Beach Pool Villa which can house two adults and a child. The rooms are open plan with large, airy, arched ceilings. It has 860 square feet of space with a king bed dressed in white linens at the center of the room. The rest of the room features earthy tones and a muted color palette. 

Bathrooms are also lavish with twin sinks, a private shower, and hotel-branded amenities including Clarins bath products. The soaking tub is located outdoors together with an outdoor shower and lounging area. Each villa is also fitted with a 25-foot long pool that looks out to a view of the beach up ahead. 

Athiri offers all-day dining and the perfect spot for a cold buffet. You can also order à la carte or grab something off-menu. For casual sunset drinks, the cocktail and pool bar, Avi, is the perfect place to park yourself. For overwater fine dining, Aragu is the place to visit. Finally, for teppanyaki, Tavaru is a must-visit. They also deliver an exquisite wine selection worth over a million Euros. 

For facilities, Velaa Private Island goes all out. It has one of only seven in the world, My Blend by Clarins Spa. This spa has overwater treatment rooms with a sunken jacuzzi, a nail and hair salon, and promises guests the ultimate relaxation.

There’s a stunning beach, squash, tennis, and volleyball courts, as well as a yoga pavilion. However, the highlight is the Golf Academy by Olazabal. This stunning nine-tee golf course is designed by Jose Maria Olazabal and is known for having the world’s most expensive grass. The resort is also a host of overwater and underwater activities guests can indulge in. 

The Velaa Private Island is one of the most expensive exclusive resorts in the Maldives. Entry-level rooms start at around $2700 along with tax. Currently, there’s no option to book it with points.

When you think of Venice, you often imagine romantic canals streets, lovely architecture, and singing gondoliers. However, it’s also surrounded by several small islands and saltwater lagoons, one of which is the stunning Isola Santa Cristina.

Isola Santa Christina is a small, private island that’s only 25-minutes from St. Mark’s Square. It measures 74 acres from end to end and is surrounded by vineyards, an orchard as well as organic farmland. The property offers nine bedrooms so the island is only capable of accommodating up to 19 guests at a time. 

Each room in Villa Ammiana is minimalist yet chic. Expect to see crisp white walls with clean lines and thoughtful wood accents. The king bed is covered in tan white sheets which contrasts against the striking whiteness of everything. 

Inside the bathroom, you’ll find white marble floors with twin sinks, a deep tub, and a toilet. Glass walled showers with rolls of comfy towels are also in each bath. Some bedrooms also feature beautiful exposed wood beams on the ceiling.

For amenities, there’s a swimming pool with a teak deck and several parasols. A small rocky beach is behind the property as well. All around the property are local wildlife like ducks, chickens, and even wild peacocks. 

Booking a stay at the Isola Santa Cristina will set you back $2,200 per night. There’s no option to book it using points as of the moment.

11. &Beyond Mnemba Island

Just 1.5 kilometers from the coast of Zanzibar, &Beyond Mnemba Island Lodge is nestled in a private atoll that promises great diving and snorkeling. Zanzibar is famous for its green turtles, an endangered species, and there are two protected nesting sites on the island itself. To reach the island, you’ll need to take a 15-minute boat ride. 

There are only 12 glamorous villas in this resort. Each one with thatched roofing, beautiful wooden furniture, rattan floors, and open-sided balustrades. A king bed sits in the middle with gauzy curtains all around. These bungalow retreats, known locally as bandas, look rustic but it’s every bit elegant as well. 

The bathroom is right behind the bed. It comes with a private shower fitted with a rainfall showerhead and surrounded by Kenyan glass beads. It also has twin basins, a private bath, and a dressing area with plenty of extras. 

For amenities, there’s a fantastic beach and a host of water activities. There’s scuba diving, snorkeling, stand-up paddleboarding, and you can even go on a green turtle nesting adventure. When it comes to food, there’s a central dining area with a bar right beside it. You can also enjoy barefoot dining at its finest with fresh seafood platters and delicious salads. 

A stay at the &Beyond Mnemba Island will cost you $1,320 per night during off-peak dates and around $1,830 per night on peak dates.

The rate is already inclusive of return transfers as well as three meals a day including drinks and refreshments. It even includes water sport activities and 2 dives per day. There’s no option to book with points for &Beyond Mnemba Island at the moment.
