La Première Lounge, Air France (Charles de Gaulle Airport – CDG)

The La Première Lounge (Salon La Premiére) in CDG is a top-tier airport lounge considered by premium travelers to be among the best in Europe, even the top in the world! In fact, this lounge perfectly epitomizes the difference between first and business class and how the two are worlds apart.

This might sound like a stretch, but once you experience the service and see the amenities, you’ll understand why.

From the moment you step off your plane, a purser and a luxury vehicle will be waiting to take you to the lounge. This shows you that Air France’s excellent ground service begins the moment you step outside the plane.

You’ll be breezed through security and taken inside the lounge where you’ll find two main seating areas – the main room and a smaller space in the back room. The main seating is composed of both couches and chairs while those in the smaller space are comprised mostly of just comfy chairs.

While here, the La Première dining experience is something you can’t miss. Michelin-starred chef Alain Ducasse has created a lavish menu, making you feel as if you’re dining at a 5-star hotel. SWISS Air knows how to pull out all the stops, delivering almost 8,000 square feet of pure heaven in an airport!

When you first enter the SWISS Air First Class Lounge, the first thing that greets you is a large wine humidor filled with hundreds of the finest wines sourced from all over the world. It’s a sign of the opulence, luxury, and amazing care SWISS Air delivers to its First Class passengers.

In front of the humidor is a carefully curated selection of champagnes for the day. The wine selection is impressive in variety, but this lounge lacks more expensive bottles like the Laurent-Perrier Grand Siècle poured generously at British Airways’ The Concorde Room. Still, there’s no shortage of fantastic champagne and wines to choose from.

As you head further, you’ll spot a stunning bar with chairs and more drinks! This time, it’s geared towards whisky lovers. Sample the tequila or ask for the coffee-based Patrón XO Cafe, a smooth-dry drink from Jalisco, Mexico with hints of freshly roasted coffee, chocolate, and vanilla.

After feasting on the drinks, park yourself in one of the many stylish booths or seating areas around the lounge. From leather armchairs, spacious ottomans, and comfy couches, there’s always a seat within a few steps.

Lighting inside the lounge is bright and cozy thanks to the strategically placed lamps. They not only provide light but create warmth, reminiscent of home. The large windows looking out to the tarmac also lets natural light flood in. The First Class Lounge E is located at Terminal E. If you arrive in Terminal A, SWISS ground service can take you to the Terminal E First Class Lounge in a dedicated limo. The lounge is open daily between 6:00 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.

Lufthansa First Class Lounge B-Gate, Frankfurt (Frankfurt Airport – FRA)

If you’re flying First Class out of Frankfurt, Lufthansa’s First Class Terminal is the ideal place to be when waiting for your flight.

However, for First Class passengers arriving or connecting via Frankfurt, it makes more sense to head to Lufthansa’s First Class Lounges instead.

Both lounges are located at Terminal 1, you can find one at the A-Gates (Schengen) and the other at the B-Gates (non-Schengen). Both feature similar services with only minor differences. So either of these lounges will make a great spot to hide away and relax once you arrive in Frankfurt.

For this one, let’s take a look at the First Class Lounge at the B-Gate in the non-Schengen area.

Lufthansa’s impeccable 747-8 First Class service is something people rave about. Luckily, they maintain the same high-quality services on the ground as well.

The Lufthansa Lounge is considered one of the best airport lounges in the world and it’s easy to see why. Step inside and you’ll find yourself greeted by cordial and friendly staff. Clustered seating is immediately available, perfect for families or groups of people traveling together.

A row of easy chairs lines the glass windows looking over the departure gates below. If you want to get work done, there are designated workrooms with sliding doors for quick meetings or phone calls. A well-stocked shower room (even one with a full bath!) is available if you want to freshen up after a flight.

There are two sleeping rooms available as well. These are quickly occupied so make sure to reserve it in advance if sleeping is part of the plan while you’re at the lounge.

If you fancy a souvenir, ask the shower attendant for the famous Lufthansa First-Class ducks! They’ll gladly give you one, even two.

But Lufthansa’s lounges are best known for their dining experience. Catered by DO&CO, guests can enjoy fine dining with a host of culinary treats.

Got no time to sit and dine? Head to the buffet table and grab fresh fruits, pastries, cereal, sausages, or whatever you fancy. For drinks, the bar is always open, serving alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.

Best of all, if your boarding time is up, an attendant will come to fetch you. If your terminal is a bit far, you can be driven via a private car or van right up to the plane.

Lufthansa’s First Class Lounge is open to all arriving and departing passengers taking Lufthansa or Swiss First Class.

Miles & More HON Circle members with a boarding pass for the same day can also access the lounge. The lounge isn’t available to Star Alliance first-class passengers.

The First Class Lounge is located at Terminal 1, B-Gates near B22. It is open between 5:15 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.

Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse, London (Heathrow Airport – LHR)

Designed to look like a classy hotel instead of the generic airport lounge, Virgin Atlantic’s Clubhouse has always been a fan favorite for Upper-Class travelers navigating through the busyness of Heathrow.

Just like traveling in Virgin’s A350 new Upper Class, the moment you step into the lounge, you’ll know you’ve entered a carefully curated space thanks to Virgin’s signature purple and red mood lights and expansive cocktail bar that seems to stretch for miles.

The lounge is filled with ample seating, so there’s always a place to hunker down. Whether you want to lounge on plush sofas or go solo in a quiet corner, you can find a spot to claim as your own while here.

If you’re there in the morning, there’s a small deli serving cold cuts, a host of pastries and bread along with other breakfast items, so you can grab some quick bites while inside the lounge. This is replaced by a lunch and dinner set.

Full waiter service is available throughout the lounge so you can have meals right where you’re sitting. You can order a Cheeseburger, Ratatouille Salad, or enjoy an English Breakfast. During afternoons, you can order Afternoon High Tea courtesy of Virgin Atlantic’s partnership with pastry chef, Eric Lanlard.

For drink selection, there’s an extensive list of wines and drinks to choose from. In fact, the Virgin Clubhouse probably has one of the most impressive lists of alcoholic drinks on offer than most lounges.

For a quick perk me up, avail of the spa services. Like those offered by top lounges like British Airways’ Concorde Room or Air France’s La Prèmiere, there’s a complimentary spa service for those flying Virgin Atlantic or Delta.

Another rare feature of the Clubhouse is it has its own barbershop inside. The Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse barbershop does offer a free trim but more extensive options are available as paid services. There are also shower rooms in the lounge which are stylish, well designed, and come stocked with toiletries and towels.

Another thing is that there’s a beautiful outdoor terrace with views of planes flying in and out of Heathrow. The terrace with its sun chairs and tarmac views makes for a great mini escape.

Finally, don’t worry about missing your flight, because these are always announced over the lounge. What’s more, the lounge coordinates with the gate staff to ensure there are no long lines waiting for you.

Upper Class or Delta One passengers can access the lounge for free. Flying Club Gold members can also get in. You can bring a guest with you as long as they’re traveling on the same day at the same terminal onwards on any international flight via Virgin Atlantic, Delta, Air France, or KLM. 

The Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse is located at Terminal 3 of Heathrow Airport. It is open from 6:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.

British Airways’ Concorde Room, London (Heathrow Airport – LHR)

Tucked away from the hustle and bustle of Terminal 5 at Heathrow Airport, the Concorde Room is considered the most elite out of all airport lounges offered by British Airways.

Sure, several years ago, frequent flyers weren’t happy with the service here. But BA has since improved and refurbished the space in 2017. Along with it came better service and even more indulgent options for First Class travelers.

As you approach BA’s First Class Wing where the lounge is located, security will assist with your check-in, letting you say goodbye to long lines. After checking you in, they will guide you to the lounge.

Inside, the lounge is decorated with wooden floors, comfy chairs, and elegant decor to echo that British touch. For meals, there’s an à la carte dining option with attentive waitstaff always on hand to offer a curated set of wines and champagnes to match your meal.

Speaking of champagne, it’s free-flowing here so don’t be shy about asking for a second glass of that Laurent-Perrier Grand Siècle!

Need some alone time? Private cabanas are available for reservation. Take a quick nap or rest before flying off to your next exciting adventure.

Another thing to check out is the Elemis Spa. First Class passengers can book the spa up to 28 days ahead while those with Business Class tickets can only book it on the day they arrive. The Elemis Spa offers body massages, facial treatments, and grooming services.

For a view of the runway, there’s a terrace area filled with daybeds, sofas, and open-air seating. Enjoy the view with a glass of cocktail, and it’ll feel as if you’re already on vacation.

You can access the Concorde Room Lounge with a British Airways First Class ticket. Just present your boarding pass at the entrance. You can also flash your exclusive British Airways Concorde Room card, which you get after collecting 5,000 Tier points or more for a single year, to be ushered inside this exclusive space.

If you have the Concorde Room card, you can bring one guest or family member inside, provided they are hopping on a BA flight later that day.

Finnair Platinum Wing Lounge, Helsinki (Helsinki-Vantaa Airport – HEL)

Sleek and stylish, the Finnair Platinum Wing Lounge showcases the very best of Scandinavian design with an inkling for minimalist modern.

Finnair wanted passengers to walk into the lounge and experience a sense of calm. And it seems they’ve delivered. The new space is designed so the more passengers go deeper, the quieter and more private it becomes.

Despite being designed to accommodate only 155 passengers, the lounge is spacious. After entering, turn left and you’re greeted with comfy lounge armchairs. Keep moving forward and you’ll find yourself at the bar, also lined with high chairs so you can chill and sip while waiting for your flight.

Almost every nook and area is well-designed with a variety of seating to fit every type of traveler. One neat area is the private chairs lining the outer walls. These come with high walls so no one can see you and a tiny, built-in side table with an opening to serve as storage for your items.

For dining options, à la carte dining is only available from 12:00 noon to 5:00 pm. Buffet service is always open. Choose from hot or cold options.

For hearty meals, they serve pork ribs, creamed potatoes, and roasted veggies, to name a few. If you’re saving yourself for Finnair’s fantastic in-flight meal, just munch on fresh salads, sweets, or cheeses instead.

For drinks, the bar is always open. Ask for the drinks list and take your pick from classics such as a Bloody Mary to unique Nordic flavors like Finberry Martini. Mocktails and non-alcoholic drinks are also just one ask away. A host of John Perrier wines are also waiting to be sampled on the self-service counter.

If you prefer to get your kick from caffeine, the Finnair Platinum Wing bar has a barista. Ask for a cappuccino here, it’s one of the best!

Having a barista is one thing, but the Finnair Platinum Wing tops itself by providing passengers with a sauna. It’s a rare treat and something you won’t see offered in most lounges.

Stylish shower areas can be booked using an electronic booking system just outside the shower doors. If the light is red, then someone is already inside. When the light is green, it’s available and you can book it for a 30-minute block right away.

The Finnair Platinum Wing Lounge is only open to Finnair Plus Platinum Lumo members, Plus Platinum, and Oneworld Emerald holders.

If you want to bring guests, Platinum Lumo members can bring up to four, while Plus Platinum and Emerald members can each bring one guest inside.

The Finnair Platinum Lounge is located at Terminal 2 of the Helsinki Airport. It is open from 5:30 a.m. to 12 a.m.

Cathay Pacific First Class Lounge, London (Heathrow Airport – LHR)

Cathay Pacific’s Amazing Pier Lounge in Hong Kong is consistently praised for being a “must-visit” so it’s no surprise their other lounges around the world are also getting plenty of notice.

The airline has two lounges in Heathrow, a First Class Lounge and a Business Class Lounge. We’ll take a look at the First Class Lounge for this entry.

Cathay Pacific’s First Class and Business Class lounges actually sit next door to each other. The Business Class lounge is bigger but the First Class lounge gives more privacy and premium service.

The First Class Lounge is found to your left from the entrance. Staff will check your boarding pass and if you are eligible for the First Class lounge, you will be directed to it.

Once inside, you’re greeted by a classy, luxurious space with comfortable-looking chairs. Each seating zone is made to be intimate, and can only accommodate up to a dozen people at one time.

If you’re a frequent Cathay Pacific traveler, you’ll recognize the lounge’s design as similar to Cathay Pacific’s Pier First Class Lounge in Hong Kong.

First-class guests are spoiled with seating options here. There are comfy couches, large sofas, and spectacular seats overlooking some of the gates and the runway. These prime seats line the windows and are a great spot for aviation geeks.

The majority of the seats and side tables have discreet charging ports and there’s always a warm light nearby so whether you’re inside the lounge in the morning or evening, it’s still going to look stunning.

Meanwhile, the partitions between areas are made up of translucent material with wooden supports. This infuses the space with a subtle Asian flair while still keeping it modern.

Striking overhead lamps that look like modern versions of Chinese lanterns hang above certain spots. There are also countless table lamps that create a beautiful glow within the lounge.

This glow creates warmth and enhances the earth tones, deep blues, and blacks of the furniture as well as the wooden accents found all throughout.

For plant lovers, there are plants dotted around the space. First-Class lounges can look unusually pristine and cold, but Cathay Pacific, along with the designer Studioilse, has taken care to ensure the lounges exude comfort and life.

Like you would expect from Cathay First, dining is also extra special. Guests at the First Class lounge can enjoy the pantry, a self-serve drinks area, and a dining room.

The pantry is easy to spot as it’s placed to the right of the lounge entrance. You’ll find small pastry bites here, like croissants, danishes, muffins, and more. Drinks like coffee, teas, and sparkling water are also here. A small fridge filled with parfaits, yogurt, mini-sandwiches, and cold cuts is also available.

Cathay Pacific’s self-serve drinks bar is well-stocked and guests are never short of options. You can have your fill of sodas, premium beer on tap, quality bottled water, or go for a more luxurious option like a Moët Chandon or a Baron de Rothschild Brut NV Champagne.

For sit-down dining, the restaurant offers an à la carte menu. The space is similar, albeit a smaller version of the one found at The Pier. The restaurant opens at 10:15 a.m. for breakfast. Then around 11:40 a.m., they switch to lunch. The breakfast and lunch menu is different and overall, the menu is regularly changed.

Some of the items on the breakfast menu include Organic Quinoa Salad, an English Breakfast, or a Bircher Muesli, among others. For the lunch menu, a few of the dishes listed are Pan Fried Parmesan Polenta with Feta and Olives, and Roasted Cod.

If you’re missing Cathay Pacific’s noodle bar, don’t worry, the dining room menu at Cathay First actually includes a Signature Noodle section. Here, you’ll find Dan Dan Mien, Wonton Noodle Soup as well as a Dim Sum Basket.

As exquisite as Cathay Pacific’s First Class Lounge is, there is a tiny quirk (although it might not be a dealbreaker for most people) – there is no toilet inside the lounge itself. If you want to use the loo, you need to exit the lounge and walk a few steps following the directions.

Of course, the toilet is stunning and fully stocked with the best amenities including Aesop branded toiletries. You’ll also find the private shower areas here which you can reserve through an attendant.

Cathay Pacific’s First Class Lounge is one of those places that needs to be included in your plans when you find yourself in Heathrow. It’s a beautiful space and is considered to be one of the best airport lounges here.

How To Get Inside

Access to the lounge is open to all oneworld Emerald members, Marco Polo Diamond Club members, including passengers flying First-Class on a oneworld flight. One guest is permitted for entry at the lounge. 

Passengers who are connecting in First Class and flying Cathay Pacific are also allowed inside but they are not allowed to bring in a guest.

The Cathay Pacific First Class Lounge is located in Zone C, Terminal 3 of Heathrow Airport. It is open from 5:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. from Mondays to Saturdays. On Sundays, it is open from 7:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.

The Loft, Belgium (Brussels Airport – BRU)

In 2019, the Loft lounge was awarded Europe’s Leading Airport Lounge at the annual World Travel Awards. It’s no surprise it won.

Newly renovated, the lounge covers close to 22,000 square feet designed to accommodate up to 500 guests.

During its redesign, there was a clear emphasis on combining physical and digital experiences. Not only is the lounge bigger, but it incorporates a lot of digital functionality.

It has its own app dubbed “Connected Lounge” which is available to use on its partner Microsoft Tablets which are offered to guests as they enter. Within the app, you can customize your stay at the lounge.

Book a shower room or a nap room with a touch of a button or check out what lunch menu is on offer. An extensive map system can be found on the app and a chance to view what type of entertainment is on offer while you’re there.

For the physical space itself, it comes as no surprise that Brussels Airlines pulled out all the stops.

From the moment you enter, natural sunlight illuminates the space thanks to the large windows. These windows also give you a stunning view of airplanes coming in and out of the runway.

Seating options are abundant and cleverly divided into zones. Each one is geared towards comfort so expect to see shiatsu massage chairs, plush leather seats to beautiful workstations. There’s always a nook to tuck into.

Brussels Airlines has partnered with leading technology and design brands as well like Lexus, Dyson, Corian, Grohe, and Miele. You’ll find Dyson equipment used throughout the lounge while Lexus has a dedicated 8,500 square feet of space showcasing their design and luxury brand.

One detail you’ll notice is that one area of the lounge has constant background music playing while another area is purposely left quiet. It’s a neat touch showing that they pay attention to the details.

The Loft offers a buffet spread instead of à la carte dining. The buffet offers cereals, fresh fruits, pastries, salads, bread, and hot dishes. Drinks are self-service and you can even pour yourself beer straight from the tap. A selection of red and white wines are also on-hand.

A few extra amenities you can enjoy while at the lounge include the stunning Grohe Spa. It comes with 11 bathrooms that can be customized according to your preference. There’s even a steam bath with light and music therapy.

You’ll also find 5 nap rooms that can be booked using the Connected Lounge app. The nap rooms even come with twinkling stars to help you sleep. Bedrooms are also available on a first-come, first-served basis.

As if all these stunning amenities aren’t enough, if you’re a HON Circle member, you have your own VIP space to escape into. It comes equipped with a stylish Miele kitchen, a living room, and a beautiful collection of Belgian and foreign art.

Access to The Loft lounge is available for those flying Brussels Airlines or Star Alliance Business Class passengers. Star Alliance Gold, Senator, and HON Circle members flying on Brussels Airlines are also eligible. They can bring one guest with them.

There are also paid access options for those flying Economy Flex, Flex & Fast, and Premium Economy. The entrance fee for this ticket class is €29 (~$29.38). Those flying under Economy Classic or Light & Relax can also access the lounge for €39 (~$39.51).

The Loft Lounge is located on the 2nd level of Terminal A. It is open from 5:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. daily.

Lufthansa Senator Lounge, Frankfurt (Frankfurt Airport – FRA)

In general, you can always expect great service in a Lufthansa Lounge compared to other lounges, especially when it comes to them treating their First Class and Business Class passengers. This impeccable attention to good service is also apparent in their Senator Lounge at Frankfurt Airport.

After entering the two glass doors, you’ll find a large and stylish reception desk. The room itself is spacious, with the capacity to hold around 200 guests at one time. The interior space is divided into multiple seating zones to accommodate different travelers.

You’ll find signature airport lounge leather armchairs, bar tables with high chairs, as well as choice seats and sofas. Round white tables, paired with modern chairs are also dotted all around, making them great little spots for dining. There are even child seats available for those traveling with children.

The room itself is bathed in natural light, thanks to the large windows all around. Warm lights and stylish ceiling lights also help create a comfortable, even intimate, ambiance to the cavernous interiors.

When it comes to food and drinks, the Senator Lounge offers several drinking stations spread throughout. There’s a main buffet area where some stations are manned and others self-serve. There’s no à la carte dining here but the food buffet is good. Hot food is also available and manned by servers. You just have to indicate which ones you want.

Drink options are varied and range from the usual coffee, tea, fresh juices, soft drinks, premium beer on tap, to more luxurious (and alcoholic) beverages like Bacardí, Jack Daniel’s, or your choice of wine. The manned bar, dubbed “City Lights” is the perfect spot to hang out if you want a sampling of cocktails.

The Senator Lounge also comes with a business area equipped with printers and computers to use. And towards the back of the main hall, there’s an area for sleeping with quasi-beds tucked away in a low-lit room. Perfect for guests angling for some momentary shut-eye.

Another great plus is the shower area. The showers are clean, spacious, and well-stocked with toiletries. You can book these upon arrival. You will be given a pager and notified once there’s a vacancy. A spa is also located inside the lounge but the service isn’t complimentary.

Overall, Lufthansa’s Senator Lounge gives you everything you need inside a quality airport lounge. Sure, it might not be First Class, but the service, setting, food, and drinks are more than enough to ensure you’ll have a great stay.

How To Get Inside

Access to the lounge is geared towards Star Alliance Gold members, First Class and Business Class passengers on a Star Alliance flight, as well as First and Business Class passengers on Lufthansa. However, those flying First Class on Lufthansa might want to check out the exclusive Lufthansa First Class Lounge found at the A-Gates if they want a better option.

The Lufthansa Senator Lounge is located at Terminal 1, close to Gate B42-B43 at Frankfurt Airport. It is open daily from 5:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.

Privium ClubLounge, Netherlands (Schiphol Airport – AMS)

The Privium ClubLounge is considered among the most exclusive lounge inside Schiphol Airport.

Only Privium Plus cardholders can access the lounge. No need to enroll in frequent flyer programs or even travel on a specific airline or travel first class. Just flash your Privium Plus card and you should be set.

The ClubLounge offers 6,458 square feet of space which you can use upon departure or arrival at Schiphol. Featuring a modern, even futuristic interior design, expect to see a lot of shiny white surfaces and sleek curves here.

White can get clinical when not handled right, fortunately, the ClubLounge paired theirs with neutral and cream sofas adding hints of warmth in their space.

Light meals are on offer throughout the day, with the food changing from breakfast, lunch to dinner. Pastries, salads, hot soup, cheeses, fresh bread, meat, and more, are some of the things you can expect from the buffet.

Drink options are also abundant, from wine to coffee and soft drinks. The fridge is always well-stocked and never seems to run out.

Ample seating is available. Choose your spot, sit down, read or catch up on work while waiting for your flight to be called.

There are no shower facilities at the lounge and it can get crowded if most flights are arriving or departing at the same time. But what it lacks in expansive facilities, it makes up for all the other amenities the card offers.

Aside from access to the Privium ClubLounge, you can also access the Privium Airside Lounge at Schiphol. But the best part of a Privium Plus card is it gets you premium parking services and the ability to cruise through airport security.

This iris scanner lets you get through border security with ease, saving you crucial time. It’s perfect if you’re flying in and out of Schiphol several times a year.

How To Get Inside

Access to the Privium ClubLounge is available to anyone with a Privium Plus membership card. The membership costs €235 (~$289) per year. A Privium partner card is also available for €95 (~$119) per year and a guest voucher can be purchased for €30 (~$37) for every guest.

Others might think this is too expensive but those who frequently fly at Schiphol will find it’s absolutely worth it. Please note the Privium Basic membership, costing €130 (~$172), does not give you any lounge access.

The Privium ClubLounge is open daily starting at 6:30 a.m until 8:00 p.m. It’s located between Departure Hall 1 and 2, right by Row 9 check-in kiosk.

KLM Crown Lounge, Amsterdam (Schiphol Airport – AMS)

Renovated in 2017, the KLM Crown Lounge, also labeled throughout the airport as “Lounge 52” caters to passengers heading to an international destination or a non-Schengen area.

The lounge has been expanded from what was already a huge space of 38,750 square feet, into a whopping 73,195 square feet. As a result, there’s room to accommodate up to 1,500 guests inside.

When you first enter, you scan your boarding pass at the kiosk. Because of the large space, the lounge is divided into several distinct areas.

The designated zones can get confusing because there’s hardly any explanation behind them. What’s more, not all of the lounge is open just yet so parts are still closed off from the public.

The division of spaces is called “Sea”, “City”, “Polder”, “Dutch Mountain”  and “Sky.” The Sea area is made for relaxation and rejuvenation so you’ll find private sleeping rooms and showers here.

There is also a bedroom which you can book for €49.50 ($61) for 3 hours or €75 (~$92) for 5 hours if you want to catch up on some sleep or just rest in private.

The “City” area is described as a space to “get a bite and drink.” Then there’s “Ponder” with plenty of sitting space to accommodate larger groups. It comes with convenient sofas set around low tables for easy conversation. There’s also a buffet area here as well as designated workstations.

Move further and you’ll find the next section called “Dutch Mountain.” This area features a multilevel construction with seats and sofas. There’s also a smoke area here and an entertainment space. The Dutch Mountain area also leads to the second floor of the lounge.

The second floor is where you’ll find the “Sky” area. The things offered here are mostly paid services which include the Blue Bar and the Blue Restaurant. Although there are complimentary meals and drinks, the majority are paid. It’s an unusual setup since the buffet meals offered below are available for free.

For those looking for an outdoor terrace, there’s one here that you can enjoy. It’s also perfect for plane watching.

Quick note, the lounge does get crowded during peak times. Despite this, because it’s such a large area, you’ll always find a convenient spot to park yourself until your next flight.

How To Get Inside

To access this lounge, you need to be traveling in Business Class on any KLM flight onwards to a non-Schengen destination. Those who are Gold Elite and SkyTeam Elite Plus flyers can also enter, including Flying Blue Platinum holders.

Passengers with Delta Gold or Platinum or Diamond Medallions can also use the lounge for free and can bring one guest inside. Any extra guest will require a $55 fee or an equivalent of 9,000 Flying Blue Miles.

The KLM Crown Lounge (Lounge 52) is located between Concourse E and F around the non-Schengen area. It is open starting from 4:45 a.m. until the last flight of the day.

Qantas Lounge, London (Heathrow Airport – LHR)

The Qantas Lounge in Heathrow is one of the many exceptional lounges operating inside Heathrow’s Terminal 3. True to Qantas’ First Class and Business Class flight service, the lounge offers exceptional service on the ground.

Qantas is known for its luxurious in-flight First Class service so it’s no surprise they also have on-par ground service for their First Class passengers.

The first thing you notice when you enter the Qantas lounge is the beautiful interior decor. The lounge is divided into two floors. The first floor contains à la carte dining and a gin bar. This is also where the main buffet is located.

On the first floor, you get about a dozen dining tables. If you’re feeling social or traveling solo, there are also seating options at the bar.

Speaking of the bar, it looks sleek and designed with a modern flair. From the lights to the choice of wood, clean lines, and strategic lighting, a lot of thought has gone to the ambiance of the space.

The buffet meals aren’t as abundant as you’ll find in other lounges, but it’s well thought out. Travelers get a mix of bread, pastries, croissants, yogurt, and fresh fruit. The lounge meals also incorporate healthier options into the menu instead of relying on fried meals found in most airport lounge buffets.

While on the first floor, you’ll notice a stunning staircase leading to the second-floor area. Once you go up, the first thing to greet you is a marble circular bar. Both the right and left sides of the second-floor area are mirrored so whichever side you choose, you get the same exact thing.

Again, the furniture here is thoughtful and unique for an airport lounge. And despite their modern design, you can tell the chairs and sofas are comfortable to use.

The buffet on the second level is similar to the one you’ll find below. But here, you’ll also find a barista who will give you a flat white or cappuccino upon request.

There’s a small business area where you can print items or go online. There’s also a small kiddie corner. (It’s basically a tiny rug with kiddie chairs in the middle of the lounge.) It’s unusual but works great for families who want to keep their children close while they’re playing.

The showers and most of the restrooms are all found on the second floor. True to Aussie style, the toilets are in a separate room from the showers. The showers feature rainforest showerheads and are well-stocked with toiletries. The tiles and marbles used are also clean and modern.

For meals, the à la carte dining is decent, probably not as impressive but definitely worth the Business Class status of the lounge.

Choices of sparkling wine are interesting since the Qantas Lounge offers drinks unique to Australia like the Petaluma Croser or the Australian Green Ant Gin. Perrier-Jouet champagne is also available but reserved for Qantas First Class passengers only.

Sitting next to the Qantas Lounge is the Cathay Pacific Lounge, which is also featured on this list.

How To Get Inside

Access to the Qantas Lounge is offered to First Class and Business Class passengers of the airline. Unlike the Cathay Pacific Lounge where First Class passengers get their own lounge, for Qantas, it’s just one lounge in Heathrow.

Oneworld Alliance members flying Qantas and using Terminal 3 can also get into the lounge. If you have Oneworld Emerald or Sapphire, and flying in premium economy or economy on any Oneworld Airline, you are also allowed access to the lounge.

The Qantas Lounge is located in Zone B, Terminal 3 of Heathrow Airport. It is open from 7:55 a.m. to 8:35 p.m.

Cathay Pacific Business Class Lounge, Paris (Charles de Gaulle Airport – CDG)

Being the second busiest airport in the world, Paris’ Charles de Gaulle Airport has its fair share of air traffic. It’s frequented by the biggest airlines and is home to some of the best airport lounges on this side of the world.

Tucked behind glass doors, the receptionist welcomes you into the lounge, does a quick check of your boarding pass, and ushers you inside.

From the reception, you’ll pass by a narrow hallway with space for storing your luggage right away. Opposite the storage area, there’s a long line of shelves filled with magazines and newspapers for reading.

Walk further and there’s a dining area to your left. These are filled with two-seater tables and chairs for à la carte dining. Adjacent to the dining space is a business area with printers and computers you can use. The desks are separated by a glass barrier so there’s privacy without making you feel suffocated.

Head further into the lounge and you’ll find a bank of armchairs lining both sides of the path. There are lamps and middle side tables with charge ports. More seating is available as you move further inside. Basically, the chairs are pretty much the same in most areas but just in different colors.

Large windows line the end of the lounge with tables and chairs overlooking the apron. There are semi-private sitting booths situated here as well. These chairs are secluded and feature a small table with a charge port. It’s great for getting some rest and for working.

Like the Cathay Pacific Business Lounge at Heathrow or the famous Pier Lounge in Hong Kong, Cathay Pacific’s noodle bar is a hit with passengers here. Their à la carte menu offers Wonton Noodles, Dan Dan Noodles, Vegetarian Soup, and Pho Chicken.

If you don’t feel like grabbing from the noodle bar, you can help yourself to the buffet instead. The lounge has a good selection of hot meals including potatoes and mixed veggies. You’ll also find rice and hot soup.

For cold options, a salad bar is available along with cheeses and bread. There’s a variety of drinks on offer with a good selection of soda, juices, coffee as well as wines.

Shower rooms are available and look the same as those you’ll find at Cathay Pacific’s San Francisco Lounge. If you want to use it, just ask for the key from reception and they’ll let you use it. It is well-stocked with amenities, comes with gorgeous white marble interiors, and always sparkling clean.

Cathay Pacific’s Lounge accommodates both First Class and Business Class passengers and hits all the right spots, making travel through Charles de Gaulle Airport so much more comfortable.

The lounge is open to all Cathay Pacific and Cathay Dragon First and Business Class passengers. Those who are oneworld Emerald and Sapphire members or those flying under a oneworld airline on First and Business can also access the lounge.

The Cathay Pacific First/Business Lounge is located at Terminal 2AC, Level 2 of Paris’s Charles de Gaulle Airport. The lounge is open daily from 6:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Qatar Airways Premium Lounge, London (Heathrow Airport – LHR)

Considered a bit more exclusive compared to other lounges in Heathrow, the Qatar Airways Premium Lounge is only accessible to First and Business Class passengers of the airlines. Everybody else gets turned away or asked to head for other lounges.

Is this a bad thing? Not necessarily, because what’s inside the Qatar Premium Lounge is worth the exclusivity of its passengers.

Located at Heathrow Terminal 4, the Qatar Lounge features white marble wall tiles and a stunning modern chandelier. There’s no reception desk or anything, instead, a staff member will approach you and scan your boarding pass before ushering you inside the lounge.

Once inside, you’ll understand why it’s so exclusive. Attention to detail is high here. From the thoughtful design to the choice of furniture and other little touches (like the olive trees in the middle of the dining tables) you’ll know the lounge is made for luxury.

There are also little touches like artful flower bowls displayed as you’re heading towards the bathroom or stylish Mediterranean tile accents here and there.

There’s also a dress code when entering the lounge. You need to be wearing business casual clothes, no jeans or revealing clothing. No shorts or beachwear allowed either. Of course, the dress code isn’t as strict provided you look decent and presentable.

In the far right corner of the lounge, you’ll find an opulent dining area. They offer à la carte and a full-service menu. Those flying First will be familiar with this type of high-end service since it’s usually offered in First Class lounges.

The menu included Tandoori Prawns Arabic Mixed Grill, Vegetarian Biryani, and more. Champagne and wine are also available for the asking. You can ask for a Rosé or a Laurent-Perrier Brut Champagne. But you also have a multitude of choices available for you.

A buffet is also available with sweets, like macarons, fruits, and mini cakes. There are also Lindt chocolates up for grabs. There’s a table with mixed nuts and chocolates. They provide a scoop and a set of takeaway boxes on the side so you can fill the boxes with chocolates and take them with you. It’s a sweet little gift every chocolate lover will enjoy.

In the main buffet, the food is also diverse. There are hot meals like soups, veggies, and even lamb chops. Pasta and salads are also available if you prefer that. There are several options for dining spaces, but the best ones are those beside the windows with gorgeous greenery.

The lounge is open to Business and First Class passengers, but the service is no doubt First Class. The attentive staff, impeccable decor, and luxurious buffet and drinks help transform this lounge into one of the best you can find in Heathrow.

If you have oneworld status but are flying in economy, you will be directed to a different lounge like the Plaza Premium Lounge in Heathrow.

The Qatar Airways Premium Lounge is located at Terminal 4 of Heathrow Airport. It is located opposite Gate 6. There’s a lack of signage on the outside heading to the lounge so it can be tricky to find. The lounge is open 3 hours before the first departure flight of the airline.

Lufthansa Lounge, Berlin (Brandenburg Airport – BER)

After a 10-year delay, Berlin’s Brandenburg Airport (BER) finally opened to travelers in October 2020.

Along with this shiny new airport are two airport lounges from Lufthansa – the Lufthansa Business Lounge and the Lufthansa Tempelhof (this one is dedicated to other airlines.)

The Lufthansa Business Lounge occupies 172,000 square foot space and is further split into two lounges, the Lufthansa Business Lounge and the Lufthansa Senator Lounge. Both lounges have their own access requirements.

We’ll focus on the main Lufthansa Business Lounge for this one. Like most Lufthansa lounges, the interiors here are pristine.

Immediately upon entering, you’ll be greeted with a large room equipped with stylish brown leather chairs set on a bluish-black carpet.

Large windows let natural sunlight trickle in while strategically-placed warm lights create warmth, keeping the large space intimate and lively even during nighttime. This sense of warmth is carried on in the wooden flooring.

Aside from the usual lounge chairs and sofa, high-top seating and dedicated dining can also be found in the lounge.

Dedicated food and drink areas are available. As of now, the options are limited but services are expected to resume once travel returns and more passengers end up using the lounge.

Since dining isn’t allowed at the moment, Lufthansa has done a great job of adjusting their policies, offering passengers meals on the go. Pre-packed sandwiches with your choice of water, tea, or coffee are up for grabs upon exiting the lounge. You can eat this outside or at the terminal.

If you would like to stay at the lounge longer, at the back of the dining area is another set of floor-to-ceiling windows with chairs placed directly facing the glass windows.

These chairs offer views of the runway and apron, letting travelers soak in the beauty of the planes coming in and out of Schiphol Airport.

Access to the lounge is reserved for Star Alliance Business Travelers and Frequent Travelers who are enrolled in Lufthansa’s Miles & More Program.

The Lufthansa Lounge in Berlin is located at Terminal 1, towards the B Gates, at Brandenburg Airport. It is open between 5:45 a.m. to 8:45 p.m.

Plaza Premium Lounge, London (Heathrow Airport – LHR)

London’s Heathrow Airport is a huge place so it’s no surprise a few airport lounges are going to be featured here.

There’s already the famous British Airways’ Concorde Room mentioned earlier, but another airport lounge worth checking is the Plaza Premium Lounge.

Greeting you at the entrance is a square space with a central four-sided gray sofa atop a patterned rug. The space is reminiscent of a luxurious hotel lobby. Some might argue it borders on gaudy, but this style and design are consistent with other Plaza Premium Lounges found in other airports.

There’s a small bar in one corner where guests can grab drinks. Bar chairs are positioned at the front of the bar so guests can sit and sip right there. Many of the beers and wines are complimentary, but the spirits are usually available for a fee.

Go in further and you’ll discover more seating as well as the dining area. The dining tables can be shared by two people. More cozy sofa chairs facing each other are also round. High top tables line the central lane, which people can use for dining or sipping their drinks.

Some areas are intentionally arranged to look like a living room. Meanwhile, if you want a bit more privacy, there are semi-private chairs with high-top side covers and built-in side tables you can use. These come with their own outlets so you can squeeze in some work when needed.

For dining, a full buffet is on offer, with cold cuts, cheeses, sandwiches, salads, cereals, cookies, pastries, and more. Hot options are also around, like soups, scrambled eggs, potatoes, sausages, bacon, and more. You can also find cold drinks for the taking on the fridge as well as use the coffee and tea machines.

Priority Pass Holders can enter the lounge for free as well as those with an American Express Platinum Card. Access is also available if you’re holding a Diner’s Club or Lounge Pass. Certain airlines also use the Plaza Premium as a contract lounge from time to time.

The Plaza Premium Lounge is located at Level 4, Terminal 2 Departures of Heathrow Airport. It is open from 5:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. daily.

Iberia Dali VIP Lounge, Madrid (Madrid-Barajas Airport – MAD)

The Iberia Dali VIP Lounge is the second lounge at the Madrid-Barajas Airport aside from the Velazquez VIP Lounge.

The Dali Lounge has over 21,000 square feet of floor space so you have a bit of exploring to do while here. Luckily, the lounge is designed with function in mind.

The North Zone, for instance, is for business passengers who only want to do a quick pitstop at the lounge. It has a buffet, plenty of drinks, and quick services. On the other hand, the South Zone also has the same food offerings but also has showers and relaxation areas.

Connecting the two is a long narrow hallway lined with chairs overlooking the departure gates below. Power ports are fitted on the long table in front of the high top chairs. This makes them convenient and practical to use.

A stunning 1,300-square-foot bar connects the two areas as well. Ask for your favorite wine or spirit or maybe grab yourself a cup of coffee in one of the coffee machines. There are also strategically-placed fridges that are filled with cold drinks for the taking.

The buffet options range from convenient eats like crackers, chips, and peanuts to quick breakfast options during the morning. The wine bar is pretty well stocked and you have over 20 options of Spanish wine to try out.

Other amenities include private showers, a relaxation and sleeping area, a playroom, luggage storage, and a workstation. These are standard fare for an airport lounge and it’s nice that Iberia has incorporated them as well. There are also flight departure screens available so you can keep an eye out for your flight.

Access to the Iberia Dali VIP Lounge is available for First Class and Business Class passengers of Iberia Airlines or any oneworld airline. Oneworld Sapphire and Oneworld Emerald members can also access the lounge and bring one guest each.

The Iberia Dali VIP Lounge is located at Terminal 4 of the Madrid-Barajas Airport, located above the transit hall.

If you have trouble looking for it, just follow the signs toward the duty-free shops then find an elevator for “Sala VIP” on the second floor, this should bring you to the lounge. It accommodates passengers heading to Schengen areas and opens from 5:45 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.

Turkish Airlines Business Lounge, Turkey (Istanbul Airport – IST)

Located at the new Istanbul Airport, the Turkish Airlines Business Lounge replaces the CIP Business Lounge at Ataturk Airport.

Occupying a whopping 60,000 square feet, this new business lounge has room for 765 guests at any one time. The high ceilings and countless seating options ensure it will never feel stuffy even during peak travel times.

After entering the lounge, you can leave your bags at the locker and grab your WiFi password after scanning your barcode.

Secure yourself a solo pod, or park yourself in one of the comfy couches to relax. You can also explore the 1,399 square feet of the Istanbul Modern Museum Art Gallery inside the lounge. This partnership between Turkish Airlines and Istanbul Modern is a unique feature and lets guests enjoy modern art while waiting for their next flight.

Aside from the countless seating options throughout the lounge, the biggest draw is the food. This is one lounge that doesn’t skimp on the meals offered. You can pick food from several cooking stations set up by caterer DO&CO – the same catering company that handles the food for Lufthansa’s First Class Lounge.

There’s a Turkish Kebab and Pastries station, another for International Asian Cuisines, a Pasta Station, Turkish Pide, Turkish Mezze, a Dessert Station, and of course, a Turkish Tea Station. It’s a foodie paradise!

If you’re traveling with children, there’s a large play area and a console gaming center to keep kids entertained. There’s also kart racing, slides, and virtual golf available.

There’s a luxurious and spacious shower area as well as private rooms with a comfy bed. However, access to this is limited to Turkish Airlines Business Class guests who have connecting flights between 4-9 hours or have a flight that’s over 8 hours.

With all these new additions, the Turkish Airlines Business lounge is proving to be one outstanding space. If you find yourself in Istanbul Airport, make sure to check out the lounge.

Any passenger flying Business on Turkish Airlines or any Star Alliance airline can access this new lounge for free. There are no guests allowed inside. If you have guests, you can instead take them with you to the Miles & Smiles Lounge.

You can find the lounge at the E1 Boarding Gate right near the International Departure area. The Turkish Airlines Business Lounge is open daily, 24 hours a day.

Plaza Premium Lounge, Helsinki (Helsinki-Vantaa Airport – HEL)

Opened in May 2019, the Plaza Premium Lounge in Helsinki consists of 5,000 square feet of modern luxury inside an airport.

Like the Plaza Premium Lounge at Heathrow, it isn’t crazy large but it’s comfy enough for passengers who are transiting the airport and need a few hours of relaxation time.

This Plaza Premium Lounge can accommodate up to 140 guests and offers a good variety of seating. Visit here in the morning or daytime and be welcomed by sunlight seeping through the floor-to-ceiling windows. The same windows offer impressive views of the apron and tarmac.

Seating is divided into distinct zones, with one made especially for dining. There’s also another area with individual armchairs and lamps, the same ones you’ll find in other Plaza Premium Lounges.

Food options are varied with a live cooking station. There’s a self-serve buffet too with cold and hot meal options. The food changes throughout the day but expect the usual staples: vegetables, salads, and cold cuts among others.

Drinks, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic, are also up for grabs. Most of the juices, sodas, and coffee are self-service. If you prefer a beer, want a particular wine, or any other spirits, you can head to the bar and ask for it. Exotic gin like the Finnish Napue is available for purchase too if you want something different.

Other amenities include restrooms and showers. You need to pay to use the showers though. There’s also a business area and a small but functional play area for travelers with children.

All of these amenities are solid and perfect for passengers looking for some rest and relaxation.

The Plaza Premium Lounge is open to Priority Pass holders, but when space is available, you can pay at the door to enter. Prices start at $41.12 for 2 hours. Prices are higher depending on how many hours you’ll be staying. The longest you can stay at the lounge is 10 hours.

The Plaza Premium Lounge is located at Terminal 2, the Non-Schengen area. It is close to Gate 34 at Mezzanine Level and is open from 5:00 a.m. to 12:00 a.m.

Iberia Business Class Lounge, Spain (Madrid-Barajas Airport – MAD)

Spanish people are known for being passionate, so it’s no surprise a cherry red wall is what greets you when entering the Iberia Business Class Lounge at the Madrid-Barajas Airport.

Opened in 2017, the lounge, also known as the Velasquez VIP Lounge, can accommodate up to 500 guests flying long-haul international or to non-Schengen countries from the T4S section of the airport.

If you’re flying within the Schengen area, you can head to Iberia’s Dali Lounge instead, found at the Main Building of Terminal 4.

Occupying over 53,819 square feet of space, the Velasquez VIP lounge features a long and narrow space. But to keep it manageable, the area is divided at the center by a reception desk.

You have the option to turn left or turn right after entering, both areas though are designed to mimic each other so you’ll find the same amenities on whichever side you choose to stay at.

The interior of the lounge is decorated with cherry red splashes, wood, and cream-colored furniture. These are set up in clusters to accommodate different types of travelers. Solo chairs also hug the wall area for those who prefer privacy.

High top chairs and private corner “workstations” are also set up, ideal if you’re squeezing in some work while there.

The food and drinks section is extensive. You get an array of self-serve drinks like wine, soft drinks, beer, juices, and a convenient espresso machine.

For food options, there’s an abundance of chips but bread, toast, croissants, cereal, yogurt, fresh fruits and more are also available for the taking. There’s even a whole fridge filled with Häägen Daz ice cream!

A play area for kids and several shower rooms are also inside the Iberia Business Lounge. Large windows overlook the apron and several runways. You can sit down, relax, and enjoy your stay here.

Lounge access is available to First Class Iberia passengers as well as Emerald members and oneworld Sapphire members, provided they are flying a oneworld flight.

The lounge also allows First class passengers from British Airways, Royal Jordanian, Qatar Airways, S7 Airlines, American Airlines, and LATAM.

The Iberia Business Class Lounge is located at Terminal 4S and is open 24 hours for passengers.

LaValette Club Lounge, Malta (Malta International Airport – MLA)

The next time you’re flying out of Malta, you can drop by the LaValette Club Lounge as you wait for your flight out. It’s the designated departure lounge for the airport.

Using the LaValette gives you access to the LaValette Premium Security, allowing you to zip through the security gates.

The Lavalette Lounge itself is spacious and modern. It’s divided into two main areas. One is a large room filled with Italian furnishings. From sofas, chairs to sleeping pods, there’s always an area you can enjoy.

You’ll also find a computer station to print documents when needed.

The lounge serves buffet food. It’s a mix of local food like pastizzi – a savory Maltese pastry. There are also sandwiches, fruits, cakes, and other finger food. Drinks are also flowing at the lounge. Choose from a selection of wines, champagnes, soft drinks, and of course, coffee.

The second designated space is a comfy outdoor area armed filled with lounge seating and stunning views of planes flying out of the runway. The weather in Malta is great and it’s rare to find outdoor lounges so this one is an easy favorite for many.

Entrance to the LaValette Club Lounge is available for members but any traveler who wants to spend time there can gain entry for €35 (~$43).

Those flying Business or First Class on Emirates, Air Malta, Alitalia, Libyan Airlines, British Airways, Turkish Airlines, SAS, and EgyptAir.

You can take advantage of free lounge passes offered with certain credit cards like the Priority Pass with the American Express Platinum Card. You can also enter using the two free Lounge Club Passes with the American Express Gold Card.

The LaValette Lounge is located just left after you exit the Duty-Free shops. It is open for 24 hours.

Marco Polo Club Lounge, Venice (Marco Polo Airport – VCE)

While it’s not the biggest airport around, finding anything inside the Marco Polo Airport in Venice can be challenging because it can get so crowded. Luckily, guests can duck inside the Marco Polo Club Lounge for some good food, comfortable seating, or simply to escape the crowded terminals.

The Marco Polo Club Lounge was recently renovated so it now comes with updated interiors. It’s a far cry from those gigantic lounges like the Turkish Airlines Business Lounge at Istanbul Airport. But what it lacks in size, it makes up for in comfort.

Located on the second floor, the Marco Polo Club Lounge is tucked away at the end of a long hallway. Hardly any signs point to it so make sure to get your bearings or ask for directions once at the airport.

Luckily, the unpromising and tight entrance gives way to a spacious area. The lounge comfortably accommodates about 200 guests and the seating is more than enough.

Explore the area and you’ll also find pockets of solitude in this bustling lounge. There’s a dedicated space filled with high-top chairs alongside the glass window as well as a quiet nook to work or sip a cup of espresso.

Inside the atrium, you’ll find a host of gorgeous plants with comfy leather chairs and tables. It may not be Changi’s The Jewel, but this cozy area is a favorite spot for travelers since it’s rare to see so much greenery incorporated in an airport lounge. The large windows also allow light to flood in from the outside, making the area look bigger and more welcoming.

More seating options are in the entertainment area where there are seats in front of television sets. There’s another area that can accommodate a larger group traveling together or double as a conference space. There’s a mini patio with a view of the tarmac which is perfect for smokers or plane watchers.

When it comes to the food, this is where the Marco Polo Club Lounge impresses. It features a fantastic selection of meals served from a buffet. There’s no à la carte dining or classy airport lounge menus like those from SWISS Air yet the food still manages to be a real treat!

You can find both hot and cold options here. They have salads, lasagna, fresh bread, meats, cheese borek, a huge array of Italian dishes, and more.

Both the wine and beer selections are also good, and free. Other drinks available are various fruit juices and soda. There’s even an in-house barista, making your macchiato or choice cappuccino only an ask away!

Other amenities in the Marco Polo Lounge include spacious showers equipped with essential toiletries including a single-use towel. The shower is free to use for lounge guests.

How To Get Inside

The Marco Polo Lounge is a Priority Pass Lounge so if you hold an American Express Platinum Card or a Chase Sapphire Reserve Card, entrance is free. There is also an option to pay €40 ($49) at the entrance. This is only available though when the lounge isn’t crowded.

The lounge is located on the second floor of Venice Airport, right after the security check. It is open from 5:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. daily.

Icelandair Saga Lounge, Keflavik (Keflavik Airport – KEF)

The Saga Lounge is the only premiere lounge found at Keflavik Airport (KEF) in Iceland. With over 14,530 square feet, the lounge can accommodate business travelers looking for a respite from the stress of travel.

True to Nordic flair, the interiors of the lounge feature stylish yet functional seating. Various chairs and lounge areas are found throughout the space.

You can pick from comfortable private sofas to large communal seating, perfect if you want to interact with fellow travelers or when traveling in a group.

Large windows overlooking the tarmac look through the planes as they come and go. There are daybeds here as well, with tall head covers, offering a sense of privacy while you take a rest.

If you’ll notice, there are also warm-lit lamps spread throughout the lounge. This creates a sense of warmth and keeps the feel like an extension of the home.

Food and drinks are top-notch. A buffet spread with fruits, bread, pastries, veggies, sandwiches, and eggs, to name a few, are available. Grab a flatbread with smoked lamb or maybe treat yourself to a helping of hot soup.

Drinks, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic, are also available at the self-serve counter. Drinks in Iceland are known to be expensive, so getting free-flowing drinks without worrying about the price is a great deal.

Private restrooms and showers are free to use. These are spacious with bath products provided by none other than Blue Lagoon. Those traveling with children will be happy to find out there’s a tiny play area filled with large toy horses that kids can play with.

Oh, and true to Icelandic fashion, there’s even a giant rock displayed prominently at the lounge – a nice touch inside this charming home away from home.

The great thing about this lounge is a lot of people can use it. Travelers flying Icelandair Saga Class, Economy Comfort, and Elite can use the lounge free of charge. Those traveling Icelandair in any class and carrying an Alaskan MVP Gold Status or Alaska MVP Gold 75K Status may also access the lounge.

If you fly American Airlines, you can enter the lounge if you have an Admirals Club membership, a Citi American Airlines Executive card, or simply flying First Class or Business Class on AA.

Those traveling via Lufthansa First Class and Business Class, Senator members, or HON Circle members, can also access the Saga Lounge.

The Saga Lounge is located at the upper level of Keflavik Airport, right before entering passport control. It is open daily to passengers between 5:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m.

British Airways Lounge, Rome (Leonardo Da Vinci International Airport – FCO)

British Airways may be one of the leading airlines in the world, but they’re not exactly known for modern lounges. They’ve always preferred a more traditional style interior but it seems they are starting to get with modern times, beginning with their redesign of their Business Class Lounge at Rome’s Fiumicino Airport.

First opened in 2018, this British Airways Lounge sits across from the Plaza Premium Lounge at Fiumicino Airport so it’s not difficult to find. Greeting you from the entrance are friendly staff. They make a quick check and usher you inside.

The lounge is spacious and the first thing you’ll notice is the stunning clean lines and modern decor. With close to 5,000 square feet of floor space, it’s been cleverly divided into zones to help ease guests into the comfort of the space. There’s a clear area for socializing, a quiet space for resting and relaxation as well as a business center.

There’s a beautifully-designed bar that is sometimes manned by a bartender and sometimes works as a self-serve area for drinks. Whether it’s plain water, sparkling wine, beer, or various spirits, it’s readily available.

The bar itself is sleek and modern with its rich black marble top and contemporary lighting fixtures. There are Italian-bistro style chairs all around it, perfect for just chilling by the bar while sipping your drinks.

Food options at the lounge are pretty good. You’ll find the usual Italian fare – pasta, bread, and tasty pastries. There are also salads, yogurt, cold cuts, cookies, fresh fruit, and of course, more Italian pastry!

One thing you’ll notice is that even if you move away from the main dining and bar area, you’ll find tiny nooks offering drinks like fresh juices, sodas, or coffee. Italian wine is also up for grabs if that’s what you prefer.

The amount of seating and choice of chairs used here is impressive. There are floor-to-ceiling windows that let in light and offer great views of the gates and the outside. Smart blinds are used as treatments so it automatically adjusts if it gets too bright or too hot outside.

Another thing you’ll notice is that you will never have trouble looking for a charging port. Almost every table and chair comes with a port you can use.

The only thing that might become a dealbreaker for some people is that within the British Airways Fiumicino Lounge, there’s actually no shower room or toilet.

Instead, if you need to go, you can head across the hall – just a few quick steps – and find it there.

You can use the lounge if you are flying BA’s Business Class. Those with Oneworld Emerald and Oneworld Sapphire elite status can also use the lounge for free.

The British Airways Fiumicino Lounge is located on the upper floor of Terminal 3 at Rome’s Fiumicino Airport. It is open between 5:15 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Tallinn Airport Business Lounge, Estonia (Tallinn Airport – TLL)

There’s only one airport lounge at the Tallinn Airport in Estonia. It’s not the biggest lounge you’ll see but it is comfortable enough to be a welcome pitstop on your travels.

Entering the Tallinn Business Lounge, you’ll be greeted with a space filled with carefully arranged chairs. The rooms themselves are rectangular and divided into a good size. Large windows let through sunlight and provide plenty of beautiful views of the tarmac.

There are communal tables with high chairs, as well as individual sofas. There’s also a set of dining tables and more seating around the corner space of the room.

A small business corner where you can work including an area with a single sleeping pod for a quick shut-eye is to one corner. To relax, there’s also a massage chair you can use.

Head to the back room and you’ll find a buffet spread with some nibbles. There are sandwiches like herring, pork fillet with pickles, chicken & parmesan and egg & salad. Salads, veggies, and pastries are also on offer.

Pair your meal with a drink from the Estonian beer on tap or serve yourself some wine. White wines like Dias de Verano Muracat or Gustav Riesling were on offer. There’s also Crafters Gin and vodka.

If you don’t feel like downing alcohol, you can grab coffee, tea, or choose from the wide selection of soft drinks.

If you’re here during the summer, one of Tallinn Lounge’s most beautiful spots is the outdoor terrace. It has gorgeous views of the apron and makes a great space for getting some sunshine.

Oneworld Sapphire and Emerald elites including Gold Club and British Airways Executive members flying Finnair can also access the lounge. Admissions are also available for €30 (~$37).
