Set beautifully against the beautiful white sands of Playa Grande, Amanera is a gem in the Dominican Republic.

Housed in an authentic 16th-century Venetian Palazzo, it’s one of two hotels that has a big garden inside. The entrance is discreet with no flashing signs, merely an inconspicuous street-side entrance.

To get to the lobby, you’ll need to ride a few elevators up. Once on the 33rd floor, staff will be waiting with cold towels and a welcome drink.

Like most Aman properties, this one takes a bit of effort to reach. It requires a 3-hour private plane transfer flying twice a day on 1:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. Private transfers cost $490 roundtrip for adults and $295 per child.
The majority of the casitas at Amanpulo line the beach while some are situated on a hilltop or tree side. Standard rooms start at 731 square feet with a huge wooden deck and a view of the white sandy beach. Inside, you get light wood and cream touches with a king bed, comfy furniture, and a couch.

Following a 75-minute drive, guests are greeted by a grand staircase into the Pavillion where staff will be ready with a cold towel and a drink. The 36 villas were designed by Jean-Michel Gathy and sits atop the hills to offer a view of Vinh Hy Bay.
Entry-level spaces start at 1,345 square feet. Striking wood floors and beams create a sense of the outdoors inside with large windows framing the green, lush forests surrounding the property.
Traditional Vietnamese style is mixed in with modern touches. There used to no TVs here but over the years they’ve compromised and added a TV and a sound system cleverly hidden in a wooden table at the foot of the king bed. Additional touches like a mini bar, coffee maker, desk, and welcome gifts are all provided.
The bathroom contains a bathtub with a glass wall showcasing views of the forest. There’s a shower covered in frosted glass that slides to reveal the pool area.
There are also toiletries and a host of accessories in the large wardrobes like a sunhat, slippers, and flip flops. Outside, a deck made from light wood lets you walk around in the sunshine without hurting your feet.
